Australian Chestnut table tops brings together three distinct eucalyptus species – messmate, southern beech and silvertop/black ash – native to the south east of Australia. Extremely hardwearing and dent resistant.
Australian Chestnut Table Tops can have many gum veins (feature) or wormholes (Wormy Chestnut). As timber is a natural product, we cannot control the amount of features or worm holes. When ordering please specify what feature you are after and we will do our best to source the timber for your project.
We fill all natural holes (gum veins, worm holes, surface checking and cracks with a black epoxy. There are a few very small holes that we do miss during our filling process. These unfilled holes will not be detrimental to you table tops and add character.
Australian Chestnut Timber
Australian Chestnut is a combination of 3 distinct eucalyptus species – messmate, southern beech and silvertop/black ash – native to the south east of Australia. This durable blend of timber makes it ideal timber for our Australian Chestnut table tops. Our Chestnut is sourced from the Gippsland area.
It is not only beautiful and full of character, it is also an enduring solid hardwood that is extremely well suited for restaurant table tops as it is highly dent resistant. Our Australian Chestnut table tops have a Janka rating (scientific hardness test of timber) of 8.1, and a Class 3 rating for its natural durability.
We only use select grade Australian Chestnut as it has a consistent colour profile, which can range from a pleasant neutral brown to light dusky chocolate browns with only very slight colour variations
We offer you 2 surface finishes. A 2 pack coating (Polyurethane) or a hard wax oil coating made by Osmo. We recommend the natural Osmo oil finish. Please watch this video on the pro’s and con’s of Osmo oil finish. If it’s good for a floor, it is good for a restaurant or cafe table top. Osmo Oil is food safe and environmentally friendly.
